The birthstone of those who celebrate their birthday during the peak of summer is peridot, most commonly pronounced as “pear-a-doe!” This gem is one of the few that forms in only one color, green. This lime-green stone is said to provide influence, instill power, and ward of anxiety for those who wear it!
The only color variation you will find with this stone is yellowish-green to greenish-yellow. The most preferred color for this gemstone is pure “grass” green where there is no yellow or brown hue.
Another interesting fact about this gemstone is that it is considered to be the most extreme of them all! Meaning? Peridot is so extreme that it is found in meteorites, lava, and even in the Earth’s mantle! The only other stone that is formed within the Earth’s mantle is a diamond, cool right?!
Peridot is known as one of the oldest gemstones known to man because it can be traced back all the way to 4.5 billion years ago! It is so ancient that Egyptians are reported to have mined the gemstone in the Red Sea island of Zabargad. They referred to peridot as “gem of the sun.”
While most peridot is found right here in the United States in Arizona, it can be found in more exotic places such as China, Myanmar, and Pakistan. Another interesting place to find this stone is on Peridot Beach in Hawaii! The sands shimmer a luminous green- a walk on their beach is technically a walk on gemstones! BRB. We’re booking our flight (as soon as we can). The special part about this stone is that it can be purchased at almost all price points.
